Mathematical Engineering Department
The Department of Mathematical Engineering (DIM) of the University of Chile is opening two (2)
tenure track positions in Mathematics, starting ideally during the second half of 2021. Candidates
should hold a Ph.D. degree at the date of appointment (preferably awarded 2015 onwards).
Applications in all areas of Mathematics are encouraged, but priority will be given to those
candidates whose research is related to the mathematical areas cultivated at DIM
(Non-linear partial differential equations; Algorithms and combinatorics; Mathematical mechanics and
inverse problems; Probability and ergodic theory; Optimization and equilibrium;
Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly
encouraged. The department is strongly committed to improving its present gender balance, and
particularly welcomes applications from women.
Candidates are expected to present evidence of an outstanding research record and a strong
commitment to excellence in teaching. Duties include a moderate teaching load of five (5) onesemester
courses every two years at an undergraduate or graduate level. The official teaching
language is Spanish.

Salary Information: Salary depends on the qualifications of the chosen candidate. As a reference, a
starting assistant professor should expect an annual salary in the range US $50.000 – US $65.000
(before taxes and at current exchange rates). This salary does not include possible salary
complements from research grants and/or contracts.
Research Funding: Financial support for research activities is available through several research
funding programs run by government agencies.
